Rifugio Elisabetta Soldini Montanaro
At 2,195 metres at the head of Val Veny, beneath the Lex Blanche glaciers and the Pyramides Calcaires, the Elisabetta hut is a key stage of the Tour du Mont Blanc and the base for the Col de la Seigne and the upper Val Veny. A spectacular terrace over the glacial amphitheatre of Mont Blanc's south side.

History
Built in 1967 by the Turin CAI on the ruins of a border barracks, it is dedicated to Elisabetta Soldini Montanaro. It stands on the old crossing route of the Col de la Seigne, used by shepherds and smugglers between Val Veny and the Vallée des Glaciers.

What to bring
A sleeping-bag liner (required in many huts), cash (cards are often not accepted at altitude), a change of clothes and warm layers for the evening, a headlamp, a water bottle. Always book your bed and meals in advance, and let the hut know if you cancel.
What to do there
Enjoy dinner in good company and the sunset from the terrace. Many use the hut as a base for a dawn departure: ask the keeper about trail and weather conditions before setting out, and start light while the snow is still firm. The climbing routes are on the trail pages above.
