Gian Federico Benevolo Refuge
At 2,285 metres in the upper Val di Rhêmes, the Benevolo hut is the base for the glaciers at the head of the valley (Granta Parey, Tsanteleina) and the passes towards France and Valgrisenche. In the heart of Gran Paradiso National Park, in a lonely valley famous for its flowers and wildlife.

History
The hut remembers Gian Federico Benevolo, a young mountaineer to whom it was dedicated by his family. Born as a small shelter and progressively enlarged to its present form, it has for decades been the hiking and climbing outpost of the upper Rhêmes valley, within the Park’s protected area.

What to bring
A sleeping-bag liner (required in many huts), cash (cards are often not accepted at altitude), a change of clothes and warm layers for the evening, a headlamp, a water bottle. Always book your bed and meals in advance, and let the hut know if you cancel.
What to do there
Enjoy dinner in good company and the sunset from the terrace. Many use the hut as a base for a dawn departure: ask the keeper about trail and weather conditions before setting out, and start light while the snow is still firm. The climbing routes are on the trail pages above.
