The trail climbs from Saint-Jacques d'Ayas at 1700 m to the Col della Bettaforca at 2672 m, a historic pass linking the Val d'Ayas with the Valsesia valley in Piedmont. Over 5.1 km and 987 m of elevation gain, the route crosses open grassy slopes and sparse alpine hamlets before reaching the wide saddle on the regional border. The views from the pass take in the Monte Rosa massif to the north-east and the ridges of the Valpelline to the west. Rated E, the route demands good fitness but poses no technical difficulties.
