Fitness level
Starting from Bonavessy (658 m) in the Valle centrale near Avise, this route climbs over 2000 metres to the summit of Mont Crabun at 2711 m — one of the most demanding ascents in the area. Covering 8.7 km, the trail crosses sharply contrasting terrain: valley-floor deciduous woodland, open mid-altitude pastures, and high-alpine rock and scree. Rated EE (expert hikers only), it demands strong fitness, proper mountain equipment, and sound route-finding ability. An early start is essential to manage the elevation gain safely and avoid afternoon weather deterioration.
Along the way — you move among woods, terraces and the relief of the Mont Avic Park. You reach high-altitude lakes, panoramic passes and scree frequented by marmots and ibex. It is for experienced hikers: steep or exposed sections, a sure foot is essential.
