TrailS27Description

Fitness level

The ascent from Blanchard (1731m) to the Bivacco Città di Mariano (2836m) is one of the most demanding routes in the Avise area of the central Aosta Valley: 5.2km and 1128 metres of climbing through progressively wilder Alpine terrain. Rated EE — experienced hikers only. The path climbs through mixed woodland and high pasture before entering a stark landscape of rock, scree and steep slopes. The nearby Gran Lago di Tzère is a highlight of the route: a natural lake whose still waters mirror the surrounding ridges in an atmosphere of raw Alpine grandeur. Above the lake, the trail grows steeper and more technical, demanding sure footwork throughout. The Bivacco Città di Mariano at 2836m provides emergency shelter. Full weather exposure on the upper section.

Along the way — you move facing the Monte Rosa massif and the Tournalin group. You reach high-altitude lakes, panoramic passes and scree frequented by marmots and ibex. It is for experienced hikers: steep or exposed sections, a sure foot is essential.
